Vehicle Emergency Kits

An auto survival kit keeps essential emergency supplies in your vehicle so you are not caught off guard by a breakdown, accident, severe weather or unexpected travel delay. A good vehicle kit is compact enough to fit in your trunk and tough enough to handle temperature swings.

What belongs in a vehicle emergency kit?

• Jumper cables or a portable jump starter
• Flashlight with extra batteries
• Emergency blanket and rain poncho
• Basic first aid supplies
• Water bottles and non-perishable snacks
• Reflective triangles or road flares
• Multi-tool or basic tool set
• Phone charger (car adapter or battery bank)

How often should you check your vehicle kit?

Check your vehicle kit at least twice a year — when you change your clocks is an easy reminder. Replace expired food and water, check battery charge levels, and swap out seasonal items like extra warm layers in winter or extra water in summer.
