Emergency Food Pouches

When weight and space matter, food pouches are the way to go. Each pouch contains a complete meal that typically requires nothing more than boiling water and a few minutes of wait time. They are the default food choice for bug out bags, hiking packs and vehicle kits.

Pouches vs. buckets — which should you buy?

• Pouches — lightweight, portable, great for bags and kits, individual servings
• Buckets — bulkier, cheaper per serving, better for home storage
• Best approach — use both. Buckets at home, pouches in your mobile kits.

How do you prepare freeze-dried meal pouches?

Most pouches are simple: open, add hot water directly to the pouch, seal, wait 10-15 minutes, eat. Some can be prepared with cold water (longer wait time). No cooking equipment required beyond a way to heat water.
