VP JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance arrived at Greenland’s Pituffik Space Base on Friday, accompanied by key US officials.
United States: Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance embarked on a streamlined journey to Greenland on Friday morning, marking their arrival at the Pituffik Space Base. The couple, departing aboard Air Force Two around 6 am ET, were accompanied by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Senator Mike Lee. They are projected to touch down at approximately 11:45 am ET.
Initially, the itinerary centered on Usha Vance’s attendance at a traditional dogsled race. However, mounting backlash led to the cancellation of this aspect, refocusing the visit towards official engagements, according to reports by ABC News.
A spokesperson confirmed that Vice President Vance will deliver formal remarks and receive classified briefings at the Pituffik Space Base. This visit unfolds against the backdrop of President Trump’s intensified emphasis on Greenland’s strategic importance amid increasing Arctic maneuvers by China and Russia.
President Trump reiterated his perspective on Greenland’s significance to US national security. “Greenland is indispensable for our national and international security. Denmark understands this necessity, and we will proceed as far as required to ensure our involvement,” Trump stated on Wednesday.
