Greenland’s PM firmly rejected any possibility of the island becoming part of the US, stating that Greenland’s sovereignty is non-negotiable.
United States: Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen firmly dismissed any notion of ceding the resource-abundant Arctic Island to the United States, issuing a resolute statement on Sunday that Washington’s ambitions would not materialize.
US President Donald Trump has expressed a strategic interest in bringing the autonomous Danish territory under American control, citing national security imperatives. However, the Greenlandic leader, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, categorically rebuffed the idea in a public declaration, according to Fox News.
“President Trump asserts that Greenland will be incorporated into the United States. Let me articulate this unequivocally: Greenland is not for acquisition. We are a sovereign entity, and our destiny remains exclusively in our own hands,” Nielsen proclaimed in a social media post.
On Friday, a high-ranking US delegation—comprising Vice President JD Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee—paid a visit to Pituffik Space Base, the Pentagon’s northernmost outpost on Greenlandic soil.
In a subsequent interview with NBC on Saturday, Trump refrained from ruling out military intervention to secure Greenland, as reported by the Associated Press.
